So having tickled your taste buds with all the wonderful vendors who’ll be at this year’s Fibre-East, it’s time to look at what else will be at this year’s event.
Always a great crowd-pleaser, Michael will be entertaining us once again with his sheep shearing show, (try saying that three times in a row!) the Sheer Sheep Experience. Expect lots of banter and useful information too. There will be numerous shows throughout the weekend so do try to catch one. It’s nice to take a break from all the shopping and relax on the grass.
If you like browsing through magazines, you might like to pay Immediate Media a visit. They will have a stand in the main foyer and will be promoting three yarn titles – The Knitter, Simply Crochet and Simply Knitting. They are one of the UK’s leading craft publishers and will be offering a special show discount subscription offer.
The entries for this year’s spinning and weaving competitions will be on display, so make sure you go and take a look. You might find some inspiration for a new project, or think ‘I can do that!’ and decide to enter next year’s competitions!
A number of Guilds will be exhibiting at Fibre-East and will be more than happy to tell you all about their crafts. We are expecting there to be a ‘feed a weaver’ event going on, where a number of spinners will be carding fleece and spinning it so that a weaver can produce some cloth. It all sounds rather exciting!
New to Fibre-East this year is Insulae Draconis, the Society for Creative Anachronism. Based in their Medieval pavilion and wearing period costume, members will be demonstrating a number of fibre crafts from pre-1600, including drop spinning, braid making, cloth button making, all using authentic tools. It’s sure to be another crowd-pleaser!
Another ‘first’ for us at Fibre-East is welcoming a number of video podcasters to the event. You may notice them filming and interviewing vendors (and perhaps visitors too.) Here’s Vero’s podcasts about another fibre event to give you an idea of what’s going to happen.
There’s still time to get your tickets in advance and save queuing on the day. Click here for more information. Make sure you have the date in your diary – Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July at Redborne Community College, Ampthill, Bedford, MK45 2NU. Don’t forget to sign up to our newsletter too as there will be some fabulous discount vouchers to use at the show. And just to get you in the mood, here’s a selection of photos from last year’s Fibre-East!
